If you need to be admitted for follow-up surgery or treatment, the emergency physician will phone your doctor. If the services of a specialist are needed, we will make every effort to consult with the doctor of your choice. It that doctor is unavailable, we will assign you to the specialist on call. Our physicians rotate to cover emergency admissions, so the specialty you require is almost always available.
The Emergency Department will alert the appropriate nursing unit to expect you. They will discuss your medical and nursing needs to maintain continuity in your care.
Occasionally, there are delays in securing specialized monitored or critical care beds due to increasingly high census in these areas. If such a delay occurs, be assured that the monitoring equipment in the Emergency Department is the same high quality found in those units, and the staff treating you has advanced training.
