Rehab Goal: To optimize functional ability and minimize pain after an injury or surgery to the muscles and joints.
Orthopedic Therapy focuses on treatment of the musculoskeletal system, which includes muscles, ligaments and joints. Treatment is available from In-Patient Acute care, for joint replacement and our Joint Express program to our Out-Patient clinics, (locations listed below)
- Your therapist will thoroughly evaluate your condition, including a complete medical history and an in-depth examination of the problem area.
- Treatment goals will then be set, according to your individual findings, and to your personal goals. Your therapist will discuss these with you.
- Treatment plan will be tailored to your individual problem, and with your personal goals in mind.
- Treatment can include:
- Strengthening of weak and de-conditioned muscles.
- Stretching of tight muscles and soft tissue.
- Manual therapy techniques including mobilization of stiff joints, or joints that are not moving correctly, or soft tissue that is not functioning as it should be.
- Modalities such as heat, ultrasound therapy, electrical stimulation, ice to reduce pain and inflammation.
- Education about your condition and what you can do to help yourself
- Home exercise program and activity modification as needed
- Re-education of walking and balance if needed
- Throughout your treatment, regular reassessment will be conducted to ensure that you are progressing towards your goals as set in the evaluation.
