Why you take the
medication: ACE
inhibitors are oral medication shown to be beneficial in treating heart failure
by decreasing mortality and reducing hospitalization.
What the medication does: ACE inhibitors are
medications that prevent the formation of a chemical in your body that promotes
salt and water retention. ACE inhibitors also dilate your blood vessels to
improve blood flow.
When to take the medication:
This medication may be taken without regard to meals.
If you miss a dose: Take the dose when you remember,
unless it is almost time for the next dose. Then, skip the forgotten dose. DO
NOT take a double dose of this medication.
Side Effects: Cough, low blood pressure causing
dizziness or lightheadedness, loss of taste, swelling of tongue, or difficulty
breathing.
Precautions: Avoid salt substitutes containing
potassium. TakeACE inhibitors and other medications (such as beta blockers) that
lower blood pressure at least two hours apart. Change positions slowly, as you
may experience momentary dizziness if you move too quickly.
