Coming to the hospital under any circumstances changes the lives of
every patient and their family. The patient’s everyday life goes "on hold" while
the medical emergency, surgery or other test procedure takes priority. Families
often shift schedules to allow time to visit their loved one. We’ve tried to
make coming to the hospital as uncomplicated an experience as possible.
This section tells you what to expect as a patient, what to bring to the
hospital, and in-room amenities. Visitors are encouraged to inquire at the
nursing desk if this would be a good time to visit. Visitors are asked to
be mindful of staying only as long as the patient is eager for your
presence. Patients need time to rest, as they recuperate from their
illness. Be mindful of your voice volume, if other patients are in the room.
On Jan. 1, 2008, Ingham's two campuses are totally smoke free. Tobacco is the
leading cause of preventable death and disease in the U.S. Creating a smoke-free
environment allows for a healthier environment for patients, visitors, and staff
on both campuses.
Patients are not allowed to leave the building to smoke. Their physician may
order nicotine replacement therapy during their stay. Likewise, visitors are
only allowed to smoke in their vehicles, and are asked to refrain from
smoking at least one hour prior to visiting a patient. Lozenges and gum are free
to visitors in admitting and visitor lounges. Ingham offers smoking cessation
classes, and can be scheduled by calling (517) 975-6400.
While you may not be in the hospital under life-threatening
circumstances, we encourage every patient and family to educate themselves about
Advance Care Planning. We encourage feedback on how we serve you and
your family while you’re in our care.
