Description
Childbirth classes are offered on a regular basis. Classes are held in the second floor conference room, Women and Children's Center, SE Building, Greenlawn campus.
Individuals taking the class should be around week 20-25 of their pregnancy. Spouses and significant others are encouraged to take the class as well.
Class sessions are from 7-9 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks. Cost is $80 per couple.
Two one-day Saturday childbirth classes are held each month, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $90 per couple.
Refresher classes cover topics from the first three classes and are $60 per couple.
Topics include: labor and delivery, post-partum, C-Section, relaxation and breathing techniques, breastfeeding, tips on understanding and responding to newborn needs.
Registration forms are at OB/GYN physician offices or at Ingham's Birthing Center. Classes repeat every six weeks.
Breastfeeding classes, taught by a board-certified lactation consultant, are offered on a routine basis. Topics include: Benefits of breast milk; getting started with breastfeeding; avoid breastfeeding problems; pumping and storage of breast milk; correct positioning and latch-on techniques; working and breastfeeding. The cost is $20 for the two-hour class. Mother-to-be and support person are encouraged to attend this class.
