Make A Difference Day 2012 is Sat., Oct. 27 and McLaren Central Michigan is celebrating the national day of doing good by collecting new first aid supplies for Mt. Pleasant area schools.

Needed items include:
  • adhesive bandages
  • antibacterial ointment
  • ace wraps
  • gauze pads
  • icepacks/cold compresses, and
  • athletic tape
Such medical supplies, used for minor injuries at the schools and in athletics programs, are in high demand due to budget cuts.

Collection tubs will be in place through the end of October at McLaren Central Michigan, 1221 South Drive, and Wellness Central, 2600 Three Leaves Drive, in Mt. Pleasant.

The final day of collection will be Sat., Oct. 27 outside Wellness Central, where all are invited to bring their first aid donations and celebrate Halloween by participating in McLaren Fitness's Thriller dance event.  From 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., participants will learn the choreography to Thriller and be filmed for YouTube.  Cost is $10 to participate, and includes a Thriller t-shirt.  Get fit, have fun, and make a difference!  For those who wish to donate supplies only, participation is not required, and donations can be dropped off any time between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day.  For more information on the Thriller event, visit www.wcfitness.org.

In addition, McLaren Central Michigan announces the start of a Make A Difference Day social media campaign.  For every "Like" on the McLaren Central Michigan Facebook fan page by the end of October, the hospital will donate a box of 50 adhesive bandages to benefit area schools.  The goal is to get at least 1,000 likes.  To "Like" McLaren Central Michigan, visit www.facebook.com/McLarenCentralMichigan and click the "Like" button at the top of the page.
