Central Michigan residents now have another location to obtain primary and urgent medical care.  The new clinic, located at 1486 Wright Avenue in Alma, serves as both a walk-in clinic and medical office for Family Practitioner David Gustavison, DO and Kayla George, PA-C. The clinic offers the earliest hours in the area, opening at 7:30 a.m. Monday – Friday.

“Our goal has always been to provide convenient, quality health care to all of our patients,” said Bill Lawrence, president and CEO of McLaren Central Michigan. “This expansion of services into Alma is another step toward achieving that goal, and a great example of how McLaren Central Michigan is ‘growing to better serve you’.”

Dr. Gustavison and Kayla George, PA-C will provide primary care for patients of all ages at the clinic.

Dr. Gustavison returned to Alma earlier this year after an extensive medical career in the military — nearly 13 years active duty in the Army and another 18 in the reserves.  Committed to serving his country, he rose through the ranks and retired as a colonel. He concluded his active-duty career as corporate headquarters’ Command Surgeon, in charge of 56 clinics across the country.

After meeting Dr. Gustavison, Physician Assistant Kayla George, a Saginaw native, knew the Alma clinic was a fit for her, and joined the McLaren Central Michigan medical staff in September.

“I knew I wanted to work with Dr. Gustavison after discussing his philosophy on medicine and finding that we both agree on putting the patient’s needs first, even if it means taking an extra step,” George said.

George earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Central Michigan University in 2009, and completed her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies in May at Wayne State University in Detroit.

George knew she wanted to be a physician assistant after she shadowed a PA at a family practice while she was a student at CMU.  What she loves most about her career is leaving the office every day knowing she’s helped someone.

“Each patient I see is someone’s mom, dad, sister, brother, or friend,” George said. “My goal is to treat each patient the way I would want my mom, dad, sister, brother, or friend to be treated.”

Beyond primary care, the Alma clinic has onsite x-ray capabilities and provides urgent care for minor illnesses and injuries such as fevers, flu and cold symptoms, earaches, sprains, cuts, rashes, and broken bones.

In addition, McLaren Central Michigan will eventually have specialists scheduled in the clinic.
