The birth of an infant is always a momentous occasion, but there's something special about welcoming a new member of the family into the world during the holidays. Abigail Hebert, a Mt. Pleasant resident and nurse aide at A&D Home Healthcare, was scheduled to have a C-section Dec. 27, but went into labor Christmas Eve.
“It was the middle of the night, and I was having contractions, so I went in to the Family Birthing Center,” Hebert said. “I arrived in my bathrobe and slippers!”
She welcomed her new son, Maverick Mark McClellan Hebert – 7 pounds, 5 ounces – at 2:05 a.m. Christmas Day.
“It actually worked out well because both of my physicians [Obstetrician Michael Swirtz, MD and Pediatrician Rumana Barodawalla, MD] were on-call that night,” Hebert said.
Brent and Kara Bouman, also Mt. Pleasant residents, welcomed their firstborn, Jackson Philip Bouman – 9 pounds, 7 ounces – by C-section on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7:31 p.m. Delivered by Robin O'Dell, DO, Jackson was the first baby of the New Year 2013 to be born at MCM’s Family Birthing Center.
“We were pretty surprised to be the first of the new year, but it's great. We're excited,” Mrs. Bouman said.
Being the first delivery of the New Year comes with its perks. Baby Jackson and his family received a special gift basket from the hospital, which included gifts from the McLaren Central Michigan Gift Shop, and from the Family Birthing Center store, Mother-Baby Connection: A Shoppe for Two.
