The Sleep Diagnostics Center at McLaren Central Michigan provides testing and treatment available not only for adults, but children. Because some sleep problems are not easy for parents to spot and are often overlooked, the sleep specialists and team of health professionals at the Sleep Diagnostics Center evaluate symptoms and suggest treatments.
The consequences of pediatric sleep disorder are wide spread and can enable risks for health, performance and safety problems. Because sleep problems can have a profound effect on children's health and behavior, it is important as a parent to become familiar with the symptoms of sleeping disorders.
B.E.A.R.S
Here is a list of questions to help determine whether your child has a sleep disorder. If you answer yes to one or more of these questions, your child may have a sleep problem that may need to be looked into further.
B. Bedtime
Does your child have difficulty going to bed?
Does your child have difficulty falling asleep?
E. Excessive Daytime Sleepiness
Is your child always difficult to wake up in the morning?
Does your child seem sleepy or groggy during the day?
Does he or she often seem overtired (moody, "hyper", or "out of it" as well as sleepy)?
A. Awakening During the Night
Does your child wake up at night?
Does your child have trouble falling back to sleep?
Does anything else seem to interrupt his or her sleep?
R. Regularity and Duration of Sleep
What time does your child go to bed and get up on weekdays and weekends?
How much sleep does he or she get?
How much sleep does he or she need?
S. Snoring
Does your child snore? Loudly? Every night?
Does he or she ever stop breathing or choke or gasp during sleep?
