Visitor Information

Visits from family and friends can play an important role in patient care. Visiting hours are determined by the severity and type of the patient's illness as well as the patient's needs and wants. Ask a health care team member about any special policies regarding visiting policies. Following are the Medical Center's visiting hours.

To Our Visitors:

• All visitors must be screened at the Patient Information Desk located in the main lobby or at the Emergency Department Check-in.
• Anyone under the age of 12 will not be permitted to visit patients without the permission of the manager of the unit or a hospital administrator.
• Restricted Visiting Hours are in place for the Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Care Unit and the Behavioral Health Unit.
• No more than two visitors may be in a patient room at any given time.
• Anyone with flu-like symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, cold nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or runny nose will be encouraged to leave.

Visitor guidelines are subject to change in order to meet health, safety, or other emergency needs. Any and all such changes will be clearly communicated to visitors at the Information Desk.

Thank you for your support in promoting a healthy environment of healing for our patients.

**Exceptions to these visiting regulations will be waived in the event of end-of-life situations.**

Visiting Hours for all floors not mentioned below are daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

To ensure the best possible environment for healing, there are several restrictions that apply to the ICU and CCU. Visitation is restricted to the patient's immediate family, 18 years of age and older. We ask that visits are kept short and there are no more than two people per visit. Visiting Hours:

Open: 8:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Closed: 7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Behavioral Health (7-Central)
Immediate Family aged 18 and older only
Saturday and Sunday 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
No visiting hours Monday, Wednesday or Friday
Holidays 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Visiting Regulations
The following are general guidelines for visitors:

• To set a healthy example for the community. McLaren Flint is a smoke-free building. Visitors may not smoke in patient rooms or anywhere on the Medical Center campus, except the designated smoking areas outside.
• For health and safety reasons, visitors must dress appropriately and wear shoes and a shirt.
• No more than four visitors are allowed at the bedside at one time. In some patient areas, fewer than four visitors may be allowed, depending on the patient's condition. Visitors in semi-private rooms are expected to be considerate of both patients.
• To aid in the patient's recovery, people with colds, sore throats or any contagious disease should not visit patients.
• Visits should be kept short to allow patients plenty of rest.
• Visitors should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.  One hour each afternoon, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., is designated quiet time for the patients. During this time lighting and sound levels on the patient floors are lowered to provide a restful atmosphere."
• Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments, or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.

Waiting Areas
There are specially designed lounge areas for visitors on patient floors and on the main floor in the lobby. Specific waiting areas have been designated for families of patients in the critical care units, the emergency department and surgery. A nurse liaison is available in the surgical waiting room area to help keep families informed about the progress of the surgery and the patient's condition.

Sitter Services
McLaren does not offer sitter services for in-patients. Some insurances cover sitter services for certain situations. McLaren Visiting Nurse & Hospice or Home Health are possible sources for providing this care. If you feel your loved one may require constant supervision while admitted, please see the nurse manager for referral information.
