Currently enrolled in a healthcare-related program:
Contact your program director, clinical/placement site coordinator or instructor to verify if there is an existing relationship with our Health System that supports your requirement for rotation. Coordination of potential new relationships for experiences at our facility will be facilitated by the identified lead at the college/university program and the clinical liaison at McLaren Northern Michigan.
Internship / Externship Opportunities

Healthcare Career Observation (17 years of age and older):
At McLaren Northern Michigan, healthcare career observation is defined as a short-term experience (no more than eight hours) where a student is allowed to observe an assigned professional and ask questions about his/her career. This is a “hands off” experience with no assistance in patient care or other procedural areas. Healthcare career observation will be offered based on department and resource availability and are not available in the Emergency Department, Surgery, Recovery, Procedural Areas, ICU, and Labor and Delivery.

Summer of Service (students ages 17 and older):
Students interested in exploring healthcare careers or needing program pre-admission experience are encouraged to participate in the McLaren Northern Michigan Summer of Service program, formerly called VolunTEENS. The Summer of Service volunteers will complete an eight-hour orientation and commit to a minimum of 40 hours during the months of May through August in various non-surgical clinical and non-clinical areas throughout the Hospital.

Seeking summer / temporary/ part-time/ per diem (as needed) employment to gain experience in healthcare:
Employment in any area of our Health System will provide exposure to the healthcare environment and will provide experience in customer service, communication, teamwork, and providing safe and exceptional patient care.
