Nursing Quality Committees

Nursing Quality
Nursing quality is reviewed by the Nursing Quality and Patient Safety Council, and is analyzed and utilized to develop improvement plans for identified areas of concern. The data is summarized and reported to Patient Safety Leadership, Leadership Council, and the Board Quality and Risk Subcommittee as applicable. The nursing quality data is regularly reported to the Professional Nursing Council (PNC). Each nursing unit/department completes performance improvement reports consistent with the Performance Improvement, Patient Safety, and Risk Management Plan.

Evidence-Based Practice Council
The purpose of the Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Council is to provide opportunities to support Nursing Research and establish a forum for the integration of evidence-based practice. It also provides access to literature related to current evidence-based practice and provides education and mentor activities which engage direct care nurses in research and evidence-based practice. The members of this Council actively participate in the development of nursing’s research infrastructure, capacity, and mentorship. The Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Council oversees the effective implementation of at least two nursing research studies annually.

Nursing Quality and Patient Safety Council
The Nursing Quality and Patient Safety Council ensures processes are in place to fulfill the commitment to nursing quality that includes measurement of quality indicators, correction for variances from acceptable results, and tracking corrective action. The Council ensures these activities result in the development, use, and refinement of best practice models. The Council also ensures there is a quality infrastructure and processes which include human and material resources to support care delivery and that there is involvement of nurses at all levels of the organization in quality improvement planning and implementation processes. This Council promotes systems that support, monitor, and improve patient and Colleague safety; an integration of the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the Patient Bill of Rights into all levels of practice in the nursing organization. Clinical and operational indicators are benchmarked with external entities to modify care processes. This Council supports ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of nurse-sensitive outcomes appropriate to the clinical setting.
