What is Osteopathic Medicine?

Factoid: More than 300 physicians and more than 1,200 support staff practice medicine at McLaren Oakland Regoinal Medical Center..

McLaren Oakland provides primary and specialty health care services guided by the principles of Osteopathic Medicine, which involve practicing a "whole body" approach to healing.

The Osteopathic approach to healing

Doctors of Osteopathy (D.O.s) have advanced training in the musculoskeletal system that focuses on the interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones, which make up two-thirds of its body mass. The additional training provides a better understanding of how one injury or illness in one part of your body affects another. Instead of treating specific symptoms or illnesses, they regard your body as an integrated whole.

Rest assured, everything is designed for your comfort and ease.

Unmistakable in the skyline of downtown Pontiac, our contemporary 10-story tower gives you a glimpse of the kind of up-to-date, first-class experience you'll find in our patient rooms and operating suites. From your first entrance into our large, open foyer to our bright, hotel-like private recovery rooms, complete with a sleeper sofa where your spouse or family member can spend the night, everything is designed to put you at ease and make you as comfortable as possible.

McLaren Oakland is not only a Regional Medical Center, it is an accredited academic teaching facility. So when your surgeon isn't immediately available, senior level orthopedic resident physicians as well as dedicated Joint Club staff are there to answer your questions. There is a Level 2 Trauma Center on site, as well as an intensive care unit that is well-equipped with the latest technological advances. You can rest assured that McLaren Oakland is ready to provide any care necessary to our patients.
