The McLaren Oakland Foundation's Sister & Sister Free Mammogram Program is here to help. We promote breast cancer awareness throughout our community while facilitating mammogram screenings for uninsured, at-risk or low-income women in Oakland County.
Teresa Rodges, Executive Director of the McLaren Oakland Foundation, initiated the program in 2007 after seeing first-hand how many women in Oakland County were in need of mammogram screenings, but could not afford them.
To date, the program has provided more than 2,000 mammogram screenings to women in need! Our goal is to provide peace of mind not only for our sisters, but for the families who love them every day.
In the United States, breast cancer grips more women than any other form of cancer. It is the second deadliest cancer among women, trumped only by lung cancer.
However, if detected and treated early enough, breast cancer has a 98% survival rate.
Mammogram screenings are essential for early detection. Due to Michigan's current economy and health care trends, countless women can't afford them.
Although more Caucasian women will discover they have breast cancer, more African-American & Hispanic women will die from it. This statistic is directly tied to the decreasing availability and rising cost of health care.
Armed with the generous support of our donors and community partners, the Sister & Sister Free Mammogram Program aims to dramatically increase the number of women who benefit from our services. |
