McLaren Oakland Physicians Provide FREE Sports Physicals
Nearly 100 children received free sports physicals during the 7th Annual Children’s Sports Health Fair held July 14, 2012 at McLaren Oakland Children’s Health Services.
Aimed at keeping kids active and healthy, McLaren Oakland and the Riley Foundation hosted the event just in time for the upcoming fall sports season.
Backpacks filled with healthy snacks and school supplies were given to each student after completing their physical. Refreshments were also provided while attendees enjoyed live entertainment from QTMC (Quest To Make A Change). Star EMS also attended the event and allowed students to tour the ambulance truck.
“This event couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Emma Wilson of Pontiac who attended with her granddaughter. Having had a rough year financially, she regards the event as an undeniable blessing. “I believe that when you continue to live with a servant’s heart no matter what, God will look out for you. Now I just have to play it forward.”
McLaren Oakland doctors and residents donated their time to provide the physicals. Dr. Tressa Gardner, Director of ER/Trauma and Riley Foundation Chairperson shared from her heart, “I grew up in Pontiac so this event means a lot to me and the community. It’s nice to be able to provide this to kids that may not be able to come up with the money needed for a physical. It helps offset some of the costs that may prevent them from playing ball.”
The event was sponsored by Genisys Credit Union and the Riley Foundation. Snacks, refreshments, and school supplies were provided compliments of Sam’s Club.
“A special thank you is extended to all of the sponsors that made this a success. Their support makes this a great event each and every year for students in Oakland County who may not afford or have time to schedule a physical.” stated Teresa Rodges, Executive Director of the Riley Foundation.
