FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Monday, May 6, Indiana Regional Medical Center's robotics team completed a robotic ventral hernia, marking IRMC's 500th robotic case.

"I am very proud of the IRMC robotic team. In under two years, we have reached 500 da Vinci robotic surgeries. The new state of the art operating rooms and the latest robotic technology definitely help, but the major factor in our success is our team!" says Dr. Dan Clark, Director of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at IRMC.

Dr. Clark works alongside robotic surgeons Dr. Nazneen Billimoria; Dr. Muralidhar Guddeti; and Dr. Andrew Billon, who recently celebrated a personal milestone on his 200th robotic case. Currently, Dr. Tracy Gemmell is performing robotic gynecologic surgeries at IRMC. This summer, we will welcome robotic gynecologic surgeon, Dr. Sandor Mecs, to fully launch a robotic gynecology program.

Robotic-assisted surgery is minimally invasive and allows specially trained surgeons to perform a wide range of delicate and complex operations through a few small incisions. da Vinci Xi technologies provide unparalleled precision, dexterity and control for the performance of minimally invasive surgery. Furthermore, with robotic-assisted surgery, patients can look forward to faster recovery, less complications and minimal scarring.

In addition to robotic colon resections, IRMC is now performing robotic hiatal hernia surgery, robotic splenectomy, and robotic hysterectomy, which were not previously offered locally.
