IRMC is pleased to welcome Nathaniel Kriger, DO, as the Medical Director of the Bork Emergency Center. As the medical director, Dr. Kriger will play a vital role in ensuring patients in Indiana County and beyond receive high-quality care when they visit the emergency department.

“The role of emergency department medical director has a significant impact on the treatment and care that patients in our community receive and we are excited to welcome Dr. Kriger in his new role,” said Richard Neff, MD, Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Kriger takes over the position following Donna Balewick, MD, who began working at IRMC in 2002 as assistant director of the Emergency Department and served as director from 2015 to May 2022, contracted through US Acute Care Solutions.

Dr. Kriger, a Leechburg, PA native, obtained a Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 2015 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing his emergency medicine residency training at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, PA, Dr. Kriger joined IRMC’s Emergency Department as a contracted physician through US Acute Care Solutions. He will celebrate four years at IRMC this July. Dr. Kriger notes that he enjoys being there in the time of need for patients and that it is fulfilling to help people within the community, and loves the team environment of the ED.

“Many hospital admissions transpire from the emergency department. Dr. Kriger is the perfect person to continue Dr. Balewick’s ambitions of providing the community with the care they deserve,” stated Steve Wolfe, IRMC President & CEO.

Dr. Kriger lives locally with his wife Dr. Amy Kriger, a primary care physician at IRMC, and two children. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, the outdoors, Pittsburgh Steelers football, and spending time with friends and family.
