Emergency Department

Around-the-clock emergency care

Indiana Regional Medical Center's (IRMC) emergency department treats over 39,000 patients annually. Our emergency department's medical staff is under the direction of Donna Balewick, MD, who attended medical school at Albany Medical College in New York City and completed her internship and residency programs at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

The center has 23 beds, including two trauma rooms, to accommodate patients. It is supported by 24-hour coverage of our testing facilities, including CT, nuclear medicine, laboratory and ultrasound. Our operating room personnel are on a 24-hour standby notice.

We work closely with emergency medical services personnel at Citizens Ambulance Service, which has convenient locations serving our community. In addition, IRMC partners with Allegheny Health Network to provide on-site 24-hour access to LifeFlight. The service is available to rapidly transport patients in critical condition from our facility or from the scene of an accident who need specialized care not available at IRMC.

In addition, IRMC's staff undergoes specific training—we have a permanent decontamination facility available for our community for incidents where a person may become exposed to a hazardous external chemical.
